7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes in Twitch chat
Twitch only shows its own emotes. Most chats also use emotes from 7TV, BetterTTV (BTTV) and FrankerFaceZ (FFZ). YappyChat shows all of them, with no browser extension to install.
Every emote, in every chat
- Twitch emotes, including your own subscriber emotes in the emote picker.
- 7TV emotes: the channel's set and the global ones, animated, including zero-width emotes that sit on top of the one before.
- BetterTTV emotes: channel, shared and global.
- FrankerFaceZ emotes: channel and global.
Each one can be switched off in Settings > Chat > Emotes, and Tab completes emote names as you type.
New emotes work straight away
When a streamer adds, removes or renames a 7TV or BetterTTV emote, it works in the next message, without restarting, and a short line in chat says what changed. FrankerFaceZ emotes are checked again every 10 minutes.
Animated emotes without a stuttering stream
Lots of moving emotes can make a stream buffer on slower PCs. YappyChat can show them still while a stream is open, keep them always animated, or never animate them.
Emote-only mode
In emote-only chats Twitch only counts its own emotes. 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes are words to Twitch, so a message made of them is refused. YappyChat warns you in the message box when a chat is emote-only, and explains it if Twitch turns a message down.
Questions
Do I need the 7TV or BetterTTV extension?
No. YappyChat loads 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes itself. The extensions are for chat on twitch.tv in your browser.
Why can't other people see my 7TV emotes?
Viewers on twitch.tv only see 7TV, BetterTTV or FrankerFaceZ emotes if they have that extension or use an app that shows them, like YappyChat. Without one, they see the emote's name as text.
Can I see the emotes from another channel?
Each chat shows its own channel's emotes plus the global ones, just like on Twitch.
